June 1944

June 1944  -  June 6, D-Day (Operation Overlord)

On June 6, 1944, the Allies attacked the Nazis from land, sea, and air along the coast of Normandy, France.  British, Canadian, and U.S. forces landed on the beaches in the largest assault ever conducted by the US military.  This operation was vital to winning the war as it diverted Nazi forces to the west and the Wehrmacht was not able to fight a war on two fronts. The goal of D-Day was to win the war, not to end the Holocaust.
